Working Hours; 08:30 am - 16:00 pm.

Start: September 2026

Working with students aged 7–15 years, you’ll provide vital support to those with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) challenges, Autism, ADHD, Learning Difficulties, and behaviours that can be challenging. This position is available to start September 2026 continuing through till July 2027 with the potential for a permanent contract by February 2027.

The Role of a Behaviour Mentor

As a Behaviour Mentor, you’ll play a crucial role in fostering resilience, independence, and confidence among students within SEMH schools, alternative provisions, and PRUs. Your role will be key in helping young people overcome barriers both in learning and in life.

Key Responsibilities

  • Behavioural Support: Provide tailored one-to-one and group mentoring to address behavioural challenges.
  • Behaviour Management: Implement effective strategies to promote emotional regulation, positive interactions, and a calm learning environment.
  • Mentorship: Act as a trusted role model, inspiring self-confidence, motivation, and essential life skills.
  • Crisis Intervention: Respond to challenging situations with confidence, using de-escalation techniques to ensure safety.
  • Collaborative Planning: Work closely with teachers, therapists, and parents/carers to create and review individualised behaviour plans.
  • Progress Monitoring: Keep accurate records of student progress and interventions, sharing updates with relevant staff and families.
  • Relationship Building: Build strong, positive relationships with students to encourage engagement and participation.

What Makes a Successful Behaviour Mentor?

A great Behaviour Mentor combines empathy and patience with strong behaviour management skills and resilience. We’re looking for individuals who:

  • Have experience supporting students with SEMH, Autism, ADHD, or challenging behaviours
  • Are confident in using behaviour management and de-escalation strategies
  • Can build strong, trusting relationships with students, colleagues, and families
  • Stay calm and solution-focused under pressure
  • Have a genuine passion for helping young people succeed both in and outside the classroom
  • Understand the importance of safeguarding and inclusive practice.
